Washington Island Art Association (WIAA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing high quality workshops to its members in the unspoiled natural beauty of Door County, Wisconsin's Washington Island. Membership in the WIAA is open to professional and amateur artists and is a requirement in order to teach or participate in a sponsored workshop.

We’ll explore the process of planning your palette and then painting based not entirely on reality but also upon the reality of your imagination. This class is for all levels and all mediums, not limited to pastels, since the focus will be on exploring and experimenting.

Ed is a native of Wisconsin and works in several media but his focus is watercolor and watercolor/ink. Uncover colors hidden inside you. Each day will begin with a short lecture, a demonstration and they students can paint on their own.

Rodger Bechtold will present two five day “on location” workshops dedicated to landscape painting in a new and contemporary context; a fusion of representation and abstraction with invented color to the extreme, both real and artificial. You’ll never see Door County the same way again. Please register early, this has proven to be one of WIAA’s most popular classes.

From lemonade skies to purple cows, we will explore expressive approaches to pigments, work with ink and watercolor one of the three days and help bridge the gap between realistic representation and what you really want to say in your paintings. Each day will begin with a short lecture, a demonstration and then, you will have time to paint on your own with one on one instruction.

An outdoor painting class based out of Fiddlers Green.

Katie Musolff is a full-time painter who works out of her studio in Bayview, WI. She graduated from Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 2004 with a BFA in painting.

Gary Hanks Guy Hanks, “Watercolor Exploration and Unique Techniques"
 October 2 & 3, 2010
Instructor fee: $320 Studio Fee: $30
Gary has developed some unique techniques which he will share with you in this short but intense workshop. There will be demonstrations and plenty of guided studio time to practice your skills. You will work on vignetting multiple colors, layering color glazes, color field control, no mud blending, showcasing stunning colors, and when to use opaque white.

All WIAA members are welcome to show their art at this always popular venue. The show has been such a success that we have expanded the length of the show. Each member may start with three pieces and more will be hung as items sell. Pieces must conform to the 12x12x12 specifications. Drop off art on August 29. More info to follow.
